Representative Bill Huizenga’s Plan to Fast Track Social Security and Medicare Cuts Focus of New Digital Ad

Voters Urged to Fast Track Huizenga from Congress

Kalamazoo, MI - A new digital ad launched today across Michigan’s 4th Congressional District highlights a dangerous bill (H.R. 3289) GOP Rep. Bill Huizenga wrote putting the future of Social Security and Medicare into the hands of a 16-person commission with extraordinary legislative power to slash the earned benefit programs.

More than 160,000 voters in MI-04 are 65 years of age or older and older voters typically turn out to vote at the highest rates in midterm elections. More than 178,000 Americans (retirees, survivors, and people with disabilities) in Huizenga’s congressional district receive Social Security benefits, bringing $353 million to the district every month.

The ad, paid for by Retired Americans Action, will be shown to older voters whose retirement security is directly threatened by the legislation Huizenga introduced.

“Rep. Huizenga has a poor record on seniors' issues and Social Security. He voted for five budgets that would have raised the Social Security retirement age to 69 between 2011 and 2017. In 2025, he voted to slash $500 bill from Medicare, and his vote for the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ has accelerated the insolvency date of the Social Security Trust Fund,” said Richard Fiesta, an expert on retirement security issues and Treasurer of Retired Americans Action. “Huizenga also voted against the law that lowered drug costs by requiring Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and cap out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 a year.”

"Older voters will play a critical role in this election," added Fiesta. "They need to know the facts so they can choose the candidate who will protect their interests.”

Below is a transcript of the ad, “Fine Print :30”

The fine print?

Just 16 hand-picked people — behind closed doors — deciding whether to slash your benefits.

Then Huizenga’s plan fast-tracks through Congress. No amendments.

Huizenga wrote it. Now he owns it.

Let’s fast-track him from Congress.

Let’s elect Sean McCann.
